Privacy policy

PromptLantern is a free website with step-by-step guides for using AI. You can read every guide without an account, and we don’t ask who you are. This page explains the little information we do handle and what happens to it.
What we collect when you read the site
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which guides people read. Web Analytics itself is cookieless: it doesn’t set cookies or store anything in your browser.
When a page loads, a small script sends Cloudflare information about that page view, such as the page you landed on, the site that sent you (if any), and how fast the page loaded. Cloudflare’s reports show us totals, like visits by page, country, browser, device type, and operating system.
According to Cloudflare, it doesn’t use this to track you across sites or build a profile of you, and it doesn’t fingerprint you by your IP address or browser. Cloudflare receives your IP address as part of delivering the data, then discards it instead of storing it. We can’t see who you are in these reports, only totals.
Our site is also hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles basic technical information, such as your IP address, to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. To keep out bots, Cloudflare also sets one security cookie, cf_clearance, which records that your browser passed an automatic check. Cloudflare lists it as strictly necessary. Cloudflare’s privacy policy covers all of this.
The newsletter
If you sign up for our weekly email, we collect your email address. That’s all the signup form asks for. After you sign up, you’ll land on a Kit page, then get an email asking you to confirm.
We use Kit (formerly ConvertKit) to store the list and send the emails. Kit processes your address on our behalf under its Data Processing Addendum. Like most email services, Kit can record technical details such as your IP address when you sign up, and whether you open an email or click a link in it.
We use your address only to send the newsletter. We never sell or rent our email list, and we don’t share it with anyone except Kit, which sends the emails for us.
To unsubscribe, click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails. Every email has one. Or email us at hello@promptlantern.com and we’ll take you off the list for you. If you’d like your address deleted entirely, not only unsubscribed, say so in your email and we’ll delete it from Kit.
Advertising
We don’t show ads on PromptLantern right now. If that changes, we’ll update this page to explain what the ads collect.
Affiliate links
We don’t use affiliate links right now. If we add them, we’ll update this page and label each link clearly where it appears.
AI tools you use
Our guides send you to AI tools run by other companies. Anything you type or upload there is covered by that company’s privacy policy, not ours. That’s why our guides keep reminding you to leave out personal details.
Children
PromptLantern isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child under 13 has signed up for the newsletter, email us and we’ll remove their address.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we’ll update this page and the effective date at the top.

Request a guide
Our request form opens your email app, so your request comes to us from your own email address. That means we see your address along with your request and any notes. We use them only to read your request and decide what to write. We never add you to the newsletter, and we never share your address or your request with anyone. Email us anytime and we'll delete it.
