Editorial policy and disclaimers
Last updated: October 15, 2026
Here's how we decide what goes on PromptLantern, how we test it, and what we won't publish.
The short disclaimer
General information only. Everything on PromptLantern is general information to help you use AI tools. It is not medical, legal, financial, or tax advice. AI tools make mistakes, including confident ones. Check anything that matters, and for decisions about your own health, money, or legal situation, talk to a qualified professional.
How we write and test guides
- Every prompt is run before it ships. We test each copy-ready prompt in at least one real AI tool with realistic fill-ins. If it misbehaves, we fix the prompt and check the fix, usually by running it again. For a small wording tweak we sometimes check the earlier output by hand instead (for example, re-doing the math), and our testing log says which.
- Sample answers are real. The "What you might get back" examples are trimmed from real AI output for the exact prompt shown. We may cut, but we don't reword, and we label them as examples. Your results will vary.
- We record what we tested. Each guide has a testing note: which prompts, which tool, the date, and what we changed. We never claim a test we didn't run.
- Dates matter. Every guide shows a "Last checked" date. AI tools change often, and we update the date when we re-check a page.
- Editor review. Every guide is checked for accuracy, tone, safety and privacy notes, and links before it's published.
What we don't publish
- Investment, trading, or betting advice. No stock or crypto picks, "use AI to trade," sports betting, or paid fantasy contests.
- Medical diagnosis. We don't interpret symptoms or results into a diagnosis, and we don't give treatment or dosing advice.
- Legal advice. We don't draft contracts, wills, or legal letters, help fight tickets, help with tenant, credit, or billing disputes, or interpret leases or legal notices for your situation.
What we do instead: help you organize documents, questions, and schedules; prepare questions for a doctor, lawyer, or tax preparer; and learn general terms in plain English.
Extra care for health, money, and legal-adjacent topics
Some guides touch money, health, legal-adjacent topics, or personal safety and privacy. Each of those carries:
- a general-information disclaimer near the top,
- a pointer to the right professional (a doctor or pharmacist, a licensed attorney or legal aid, a tax preparer or financial counselor, a licensed tradesperson, or a crisis line where relevant), and
- a Watch Your Step warning, plus editor sign-off against this policy.
If a guide would need to explain what your situation means legally, medically, or financially, it's out of scope. We cut that part and point you to a professional.
Your privacy when using AI
We tell you, every time it matters, to keep personal details out of AI chats: Social Security numbers, passwords, account and member numbers, and anything you'd mind a stranger reading. What you type into an AI tool is governed by that company's own privacy policy, not ours.
How we use AI
PromptLantern is built with help from AI assistants that research, draft, test, review, and code. The founder sets this policy and personally reviews the first batch of guides. Every page, AI-drafted or not, goes through prompt testing and editor review against this policy.
Ads and affiliate links
Today the site has no ads and no affiliate links. If we add them, we'll label affiliate links clearly, following the FTC's Endorsement Guides, and commissions will never decide which tools we recommend.
Corrections
Found a mistake, or a prompt that stopped working? We'd like to know. We fix errors and update the "Last checked" date when we do. Contact email coming soon. We'll post it here.
