About PromptLantern
PromptLantern is a free site for folks who are new to AI and would like to get something done with it today. A cover letter, a meal plan, a polite email to a landlord. We write the steps and the prompts. You get the result.
Why we exist
In a 2025 Pew Research Center survey, most U.S. adults had heard of ChatGPT, but only about a third had ever used it. The gap usually isn't access. It's knowing what to type and what to check. That part is learnable, and we'd like to teach it without the jargon.
How we make guides
- Every guide answers one practical question, with numbered steps and prompts you can copy.
- We run every prompt in a real AI tool before a guide goes up, fix the ones that misbehave, and show a trimmed, real sample answer.
- Every guide shows a "Last checked" date, because these tools change constantly.
- We're honest about the robot. It gets things wrong, so every guide tells you what to double-check.
Who's behind it
PromptLantern was made at a kitchen table in Texas by someone who works with technology all day and got tired of watching smart people bounce off AI. Friends would try it once, get a strange answer, and decide it wasn't for them. That's a fixable problem, and fixing it shouldn't cost you a dime.
The site is run with help from a small team of AI assistants that research, draft, test, review, and build. The founder sets the editorial policy and personally reviews the first batch of guides. After that, every guide goes through editor review against that policy before it's published. Yes, we use AI to write about AI. We also check its work, which is the whole point of this site.

Free, and staying that way
The guides are free with no login. Down the road we may add ads, a newsletter, or clearly labeled affiliate links. If we do, we'll disclose them, and a commission will never decide which tool we recommend. Read the details in our editorial policy.
